Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Today is a day to unite with your community. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an American federal holiday that is observed on the third Monday of January each year. It celebrates the life and achievements of Dr. King, an American civil rights leader. He took part in campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the US. Because it’s a Federal Holiday, this means that the US Markets remain closed. This particular holiday has entered an unprecedented area due to the Government shutdown. The markets are closed as well as Federal buildings, which include museums commemorating Dr. King.

How can you participate?

Communities all around the Nation celebrate MLK Day in many different forms. There are parades held by the city that celebrate the life of Dr. King. It is a federal holiday so government departments remain closed. It is a good time to reflect on our Nation’s past and educate our citizens about what we have been through as a country. Regardless of our Government being shutdown, we stand together a Nation to support our citizens.
